The Cornerstone Partnership

New Piece for Poignant 360 Film

Words by Paul Sumpter, Tuesday 14 Nov 2017

We've just delivered music for a ground-breaking short film from director Ben Perry for the Cornerstone Partnership, highlighting the shortage of new parents within the fostering community. Beautifully shot both in 360 VR and 2D and created by Visyon, the film follows the plight of several young children trapped in abuse or neglect and highlights how foster parents can so dramatically change the lives of these young people.

Our task was simple - to add emotional context to the visuals, without disintegrating into cliche territory or heavy-handed over-scoring. We created a subtle evolving strings-based piece that moved from heavy, dark and oppressed to hopeful and lighter. Using a textural approach provided the requisite mood whilst leaving plenty of room for the voiceover to be central.

The film debuted as part of a BFI event at London's City Hall on 24th October and has since received acclaim in the national press with coverage from in The Guardian and news media and winning the Social Impact Award at the 2018 VR Awards. Both 2D and VR versions are below.
