Working with Partizan and Red Knuckles on new UK TVCs

Words by Paul Sumpter, Thursday 10 Jun 2021

We were thrilled to be asked by old friends, creative animation studio Red Knuckles to provide sound-design and post on a lovely new series of films for online car sales site, Carshop.

Working closely with Manchester-based agency Driven and producers at Partizan, we were tasked with delivering a vibrant and engaging sonic accompaniment to the animations that would carry the energy of the films in the absence of a music track. We were also required to contribute something of an audio mnemonic that alluded to the ‘karma’ element of the spot’s creative without feeling religious in any way.

As always, the sound design and mnemonic were built and tailored to the needs of the film and client bespoke, from the ground up, including some interesting use of a metal kitchen bin, creating octopus tentacle sounds from spaghetti hoops and coleslaw, and getting into character for some friendly yeti Foley and vocalisations. An average day, you know….

Red Knuckles’ Rick Thiele and Mario Ucci have previously delivered visual fx work for the likes of Gorillaz, and the BBC London Olympics promos so it was a pleasure again to collaborate with the Cannes Grand Prix winners following our work together on the multi-award-winning Rafael Grampa short film Dark Noir
