Cheri Percy Joins the Team

New Digital & Marketing Manager

Words by Paul Sumpter, Monday 20 Aug 2018

We're very pleased to reveal that music journo, broadcasting buff, DJ and general digital marketing maven, Cheri Percy has joined The Futz Butler.

Cheri saw off stiff competition from over 100 applicants for the role that will see her lead our varied digital output alongside managing our marketing and online presence more widely. At the helm of channels management for the past six years, Cheri's unique blend of skills and experience across the third-sector, small businesses and digital publications, coupled with an alternative DIY-punk bent, made her a standout candidate and an obvious fit for the company.

Earning her social stripes at award-winning SEO agency Distilled, she has since led national campaigns at women-led charities, Girlguiding and Breast Cancer Care. She’s also a familiar face at The Roundhouse Trust, curating and delivering social media storytelling and blogging workshops to its young adults.

Alongside her digital do-gooding, Cheri is an NCTJ qualified sub-editor and self-professed pun nerd. A skill most prevalent during her role as the Deputy Editor at The Girls Are, a UK based online print and digital magazine championing women in music which achieved global sales. More recently, she’s spoken to dance music’s de-facto activist, The Black Madonna for Subbacultcha, written for The Guardian, taken her Mum to see Alice Cooper for Noisey and kicked back with proto-hip-hop icon, Renee Scroggins of ESG for She Shreds. When she’s not diversifying the spreads of music magazines, Cheri can also be found sniffing out new music at her local boozer for her slot as The Other Woman on Resonance FM alongside Radio 4 documentary host and founder, Ruth Barnes.

But she hasn’t always been lurking online, she’s been centre-stage too. Cheri was one part of Norwich DIY duo, Violet Violet who toured internationally and performed a coveted BBC Maida Vale session for Huw Stephens’ BBC Introducing show. Tour highlights include that support slot with post-punk legends, The Slits, that ABY pedal live set up and Drowned In Sound’s take on their debut as a “refreshing kick in the goolies to boring ladrock and post-rocking chinstrokers the land over”.

We're looking forward to harnessing Cheri's razor-tongued and similarly poetic majesty across our online channels, to help showcase our latest work and carefully curated sonic musings. Welcome to the madhouse, Cheri!
